Redfall's final ever update is now live on Xbox and PC, here are the patch notes

Well, that’s it folks! Arkane Austin has today delivered the final update for the Redfall across Xbox and PC in the form of Game Update 4, which brings a number of new features to the 2023 shooter including an offline mode.

The patch notes also contain a final note from Arkane Austin before the studio shut down:

“We are proud to bring you Redfall Game Update 4. We are grateful for the millions of players who have joined us. From everyone at Arkane Austin, thank you for playing our games and loving our worlds, it was an honor to give you these experiences.”

You can see the patch notes for Redfall Update 4 below, though keep in mind that they don’t go into massive detail about the “completion” section – alas, Arkane says more exhaustive patch notes they are not will be made available.

NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION – PRESENTATION OF COMMUNITY ATTITUDE

With the release of Game Update 4, unlocking a new Safehouse, completing Safehouse missions, rescuing civilians, or killing an Underboss will all contribute to a new reputation bar called, “Community Attitude.” As you help the residents of Redfall free their town from the grip of the Vampire Lords, you’ll be able to use your Support Coin to unlock new rewards from the Safehouse Skill Tree.

There are six Standing Community ranks that give you 39 unique rewards that serve as permanent fans. As you progress higher through the Skill Tree, unlocks become more and more impactful. To help you get a better idea of what upgrades to expect, let’s look at some unlocks from each of the six Community Standing ranks.

Rank 1:

  • Treat yourself: Cosmetics near your location appear on your map and compass.
  • I’m in: Turrets and Tripwires take 50% less time to Hack.

Rank 2:

  • The rest of the story: Tomb keys near your location appear on your map and compass.
  • Ammunition depot: Human enemies drop more ammo upon death.

Rank 3:

  • Well founded: Take 50% less damage from Rook Storm lightning strikes.
  • Castle Doctrine: Unlocked Safehouse Defense now includes some Friendly Turrets.

Rank 4:

  • Family inheritance: Fishermen, shrouds and siphons give better rewards after death.
  • Homeopathic medicine: Using a medical supply has a 40% chance of not consuming the item.

Rank 5:

  • Crystal ball: Each Psychic Remnant Orb collected has a 40% chance to grant you significantly more Psychic Remnant.
  • The last laugh: When destroyed, Friendly Turrets will electrocute enemies within 20 meters. Does not affect enemies immune to electric shocks.

Rank 6:

  • High roller: Unmatched items appear much more often in loot.
  • Escape plan: Activate a saved Bellwether Cloak for 10 seconds after reaching critical health levels. The attack will be disabled. It can only happen once every 10 minutes.

All of the upgrades from the Community Standing Skill Tree are meant to give you a mix of QoL and gameplay benefits. Some of the features will even help collectors complete their hunt for cosmetics and grave hair.

NEST REVAMP – ELDERLY NEST

Also, Elder Nests are coming with Game Update 4. These new boss-focused slots will challenge you to destroy dangerously modified special Vampires to free Redfall from their influence. Elder Nest portals will appear around Redfall just like their Heart Nest siblings. But these new psychic spaces can be distinguished by their purple glow over the areas where their influence reaches.

After accepting the challenge and entering the old man’s lair, your objective is to find the Vampire boss buried deep inside and destroy them, freeing the Heart inside, grabbing your rewards and escaping. After you’ve successfully cleared the Elder’s lair, you (and your teammates) will be given a temporary buff called a Heart Shard. Heart Shard duration scales with campaign difficulty; giving a longer owl at each higher difficulty.

Here are just a few of the Heart Shards that can be given after completing an Elder Nest:

  • Ammunition synthesis: Holster weapons regenerate ammo and reload when not in use.
  • UV curing: A player gains health when hit by UV.
  • Light in the dark: The expanding aura around the nest weakens the vampires inside it, instead of the usual strengthening effect.

Another big change is coming to all Nests with this update. Failing to escape a nest during its destabilization phase will now result in you not getting Major Remnant. Any loot you pick up will still be yours, but Major Remanent is now awarded after you successfully exit the collapsing Nest.

OFFLINE MODE

With the release of GU4 you will be given the option to play Redfall when you are disconnected from the Internet. You’ll also be able to continue playing if you’re disconnected from the internet in the middle of a solo session. When playing in co-op, the host will enter an offline solo session.

PLAYER BREAK ONLY

Another new feature we’re happy to introduce is Single Player Pause. Now if you need some time to fix your kit, or just need to get away for a minute, the world of Redfall will be waiting with you.

Briefing

This article only covers the biggest additions coming to Redfall, but that’s not all. New enemy encounters in Redfall Commons, ongoing AI improvements, story mode difficulty, and a new unmatched weapon have also been added with this update.
